UCI Track Cycling World Cup 2010

Last Thursday (25 March 2010) we went to Ballerup Super Arena to support our Malaysian cyclists Azizulhasni Awang and Josiah Ng who were competing in the UCI Track Cycling World Cup 2010 held here in Copenhagen from 24 to 28 March 2010. There were many events that day but the event that caught our most attention was the Keirin Event, the event where our Malaysian cyclists were competing and being that Azizulhasni Awang was the defending champion due to his victory in Beijing in February 2010.
It was our 'school day' so I came a bit late arriving at 6 pm at the venue. Missing the first round I was a bit dissapointed to found out that Josiah Ng was disqualified for causing an accident with the former world champion Chris Hoy from Britain. However, as expected Azizulhasni managed to get through to the 2nd round winning 1st in his group. There are many other Malaysian supporters came to give support and together with us were the TV3 sports reporter, Fadzil Mohd Rais and his cameraman. They took some shots and also interviewed some of us which was aired during the sports' segment in Buletin Utama 27 March 2010 (see video - You can see me in the backgound hehe).

As expected Azizulhasni got through to the 2nd round and into the final competing with the former world champion, Chris Hoy who was injured last year. At the final round it was a close race between Azizulhasni and Chris Hoy where he was beaten by just half tire making the Scottish again the world champion. Although I am a bit dissapointed, however we felt very proud that Azizulhasni managed to get the silver medal. By looking at his physical appearence compared to the other competitors, winning second place was tremendous.

After the event, we waited for a while to meet with Josiah Ng and Azizulhasni to congratulate and give them moral support. Azizulhasni was very excited to see many Malaysians came to support him and he said that definitely that gave him a boost. Actually I never interested in track cycling before, but this experience changes that especially when a Malaysian managed to get to this level. Keep it up!
